β Worcestershire County Council Chief Executive earns over Β£188,500, which is
Β£21,500 more than the Prime Minister.
β 15 Council staff members earn around Β£100,000 a year or more.
β Worcestershire County Council is facing effective bankruptcy as it grapples
with a Β£33.6m funding gap. Despite receiving an additional Β£17.6m from the
Government the Council says this is insufficient, with Β£5.8m being allocated to
changes in waste regulations.
β Last year County councillors voted through a 17% pay rise, raising their own
allowances by nearly Β£2000.
β Council tax for Worcestershire CC has gone up over 23% in just 5 years.
β WCC owes more than Β£550 million in debts. That means WCC paid over Β£23
million in debt interest last year, over Β£62,000 per day.
β The Council has recently spent Β£16 million on a βbridge to nowhereβ. Kepax
Bridge, which spans the river Severn was completed in December but
surrounded by bogs on either side making it unusable.
β Worcestershire County Council spent just under Β£197,000 on translation and
interpretation services last year, almost double what it spent the year before.
β They spent Β£1.8 million on Digital Transformation.
β In 2023, WCC spent Β£554,000 on a Public Sector Decarbonisation
programme.
β At the same time the Council paid Β£101,600 this year to plant just 179
standard size trees in urban areas across Worcestershire.
